I had super exciting Saturday night plans this week. Report cards! But when I found out the report card website we use was down I quickly snapped up my friends offer for a city night out.
After a rather adventurous trip on the #1 bus I arrived at my friend's apartment on Comm Ave. for a pre-dinner glass of wine. It had been a while since the three of us had gone out and it was nice to catch up.
Our friend has lived in this apartment for a while now and has yet to check out the restaurant at the corner of her street, Deuxave. I've been twice and really enjoyed it so I was excited that we were able to get reservations on a Saturday night.
One of the things I love about this restaurant is that it's sophisticated without being stuffy. The time I ate here we sat outside on the patio so I hadn't actually seen the dining room. It's beautiful. It's painted in soft hues of gray accented with dark brown, soft lighting, and lots of candles. We had a great table in the back of the dining room. Our waitress was extremely knowledgable about both the food and drink menu. The theme of the restaurant is farm to table and the food is extremely clean tasting without heavy sauces. I got the Bolognese and it was delicious! The pasta was perfectly cooked and the slabs of mozzarella on top added the perfect layer of creaminess to the dish. Our friend got the steak and it was beautifully presented with roasted carrots and fried puffs of mashed potatoes. Everything was artfully arranged on the plate...it was almost too pretty to eat. When it came time to pay our waitress split up everything we ordered onto separate tabs which made paying so much easier.
Just as we were finishing up JO arrived and joined us. We decided to move to the bar and grab another drink. We were able to get a couple of seats at the bar and once again I was super impressed with how nice everyone is here. My friend was talking to the bartender about a drink she has been trying to make and he went out of his way to whip one up for her. It was extremely delicious- passion fruit sorbet, gin, ginger beer, and basil. He spent a lot of time talking to her about the proportions of each ingredient and techniques for making it.
At the end of the night we all agreed that it had been a fabulous night out. Sometimes I can't believe that this is really my life!
