Brattle Oscars Party

For the fourth year in a row, we attended the members only Oscar party at the Brattle Theater!  I really enjoy this tradition.  It's fun to watch on the big screen with a crowd.  The Brattle does a great job with the event, from the red carpet to the bubbles to the trivia!

Birthday Fun Part 2~ City Fun

On the day of my real birthday, JO and I went out for a fun city night out.  Adding to the ambiance of the evening , was a snowy Nor'easter.  At first I had been annoyed by the snow but in the end I absolutely loved wandering around the city in the snow and wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

We had gone back and forth about a restaurant for dinner before settling on No. 9 Park!  I'm so glad we picked this place.  The location was perfect, right by the common with lots of options for post-dinner fun.  Plus, No. 9 is so well known for it's food (it has one a few James Beard awards) and definitely a special occasion kind of place.

The restaurant features a bar room in the front and a dining room in the back.  The bar room
overlooks the park and features some tables and high tops.  The dining room is small and intimate with browns and creams and soft lighting.  We got a corner table which was perfect.

The food was perfectly prepared, dressed, and presented.  I got the chicken with potato puree and mushrooms.  Perfection!  JO got the roast pork and he loved it.  We got this delicious peanut butter cake dessert!

After dinner, we headed over to one of our absolutely favorite restaurants, Marliave!  By this time it was really snowing and it was so fun to walk around with the big flakes falling down.  It really was a vintage Boston winter scene.  We were able to get two seats at the upstairs bar.  The bartender was super friendly and we had fun talking about the restaurant scene in the city.  Plus, he assured me I was going to have a snow day the next day (which I did 😀)!

Since it was my birthday we even got a second dessert, the chocolate truffles!  I absolutely love these things and could eat them all day!

Since I was pretty sure I wouldn't need to set my alarm we stayed out for a quite a while before we made our way back home.  We opted for the train and short walk from Central instead of an Uber.  It was so fun to walk around in the snow.

It really was a perfect way to celebrate my birthday in the city!

Birthday Fun- Part 1

I recently celebrated one of those milestone birthdays!  I'm not usually one for doing a lot for my birthday, but 40 seemed like an important one to get right.  JO kicked things off by getting me tickets to the American Athletic Conference Championship game at Mohegan Sun featuring (of course) my beloved Huskies!  I loved these Husky cupcakes that JO fashioned for me.

Before heading down to Mohegan Sun, we enjoyed breakfast and coffee (yes, both us drank coffee, a city dream come true) at Tatte Bakery in Kendall.  I can't say enough about this bakery (with locations all over Cambridge and Boston.)  The food is delicious and the Stumptown Coffee is perfection.

We headed down to the casino early, so we would have plenty of time to have fun before the game.  We started with lunch at Geno's Pub.  We were lucky to get two seats at the bar where JO presented me with these two Husky coasters for our drinks (the bartender loved this) and I love them!  I have to say, the food at both of Geno's restaurants is really, really good!

After lunch, JO wanted to do a little gambling. I am not a gambler at all but he convinced me to try roulette but when we couldn't find an open table we found ourselves at the Craps table.  I must have had some birthday luck because we won!!!  Everyone wanted me to keep rolling, but I wanted to get to the game early.  One guy said to me, "You're just like Sammy [Katie] Lou!"  Yeah, buddy I wish I was!

We made our way to the game nice and early.  I wanted to soak up everything about the experience.
The game wasn't vintage UConn, they had to work a little harder than they should have, but Gabby Williams was on fire and so much fun to watch!

After the game, it was still early, so we grabbed a celebratory prosecco and basked in all the fun we had!  It really was the absolutely perfect birthday trip and it was only part one of all the birthday fun!

Oh No! Snow!

New England is stuck is some sort of "jet stream" thing and we're currently dealing with our third Nor'Easter in three weeks.  I love a good snow day, so I'm fine with it, but remember when I was drinking mojitos on a roof deck, while wearing a t-shirt and shorts?  I miss that 😂

The weathermen were all over the place with this current storm.  First they were saying 5-8 inches, then they said no snow, and then things got serious when they started tossing around the blizzard word!  We're currently sitting in the "jackpot" zone with a minimum of 18 inches, and maximum of 24 inches.  To put it in perspective, I've lived here for almost ten years.  In that time, the Dunkin' Donuts down the street has never been closed.  Not during Hurricane Sandy, not during the "bad" winter of 2015, not ever.  Today, I walked over there and it was closed.  I had to make my way to Kendall just to find a coffee shop that was open.  I looked ahead at the weather for next week and I spy snowflakes on Thursday and Friday.  So, more snow days???  Last night JO and I enjoyed the pre-snow day fun with a dinner at The Druid!  We had so much fun just relaxing and not worrying about being on a schedule!  Like I've said before, I love snow days and will embrace all of them.  I don't care about the extra days in June because SnoWin in Inman is always the right choice!
