Romeo and Juliet and Parts in Suite

I love going to the Boston Ballet.  It's such a fun way to spend an evening.

Romeo and Juliet was a beautiful production but was lacking in actual dancing.  I was kind of surprised at how much the performance was a show and not a dance.  It was lovely but I did miss the actually dancing aspect.

Parts in Suite, on the other hand, was jam packed with exquisite dancing.  The ballet was split into three acts- Bach Cello Suites, In Creases, and Pas/Parts 2018.  The Bach portion was performed with an on stage cellist who was amazing.  The Balanchine piece was performed with two on stage pianists performing on grand pianos.  Both of those acts were really well done with creative movements and great partner work.

The third act was simply breathtaking.  A co-worker told me her eyes hurt after watching it because she was watching so intensely and I had to agree with her.  The music was modern and edgy, almost traffic sounding and yet the dancing flowed impeccably from note to note.  There was so much going on that it was hard to take it all in.

Here is a link to Boston Ballet's promotional video for the performance.

Ellie Buckland at Club Passim

I'd been looking forward to this Ellie Buckland show at Club Passim for a while.  I wasn't able to go to the Lula Wiles show earlier in the month so I was extra excited for this show.  I love Tuesday shows at Passim.  JO has something on Tuesday nights so I tend to stay home and do school work and that's not really very fun.😃  Tuesday shows are a great way to make the school week go by faster and this one didn't disappoint.

Aurora Birch opened for Ellie and she was simply mesmerizing.  Her music seems influenced by The Cranberries is, in one word, haunting.  Ellie said Aurora's album was her favorite of last year and I'd have to agree.  It's been on constant repeat in my car for two weeks now.  I was sad to hear she's moving to the Mid-West but I'm hoping she'll be back at Club Passim at some point.

Ellie put on a great show.  She was accompanied by an electric guitarist and I think this was a perfect fit for her.  We've seen her with an electric synthesizer before and I didn't love that.  This worked much better.  She played mostly new songs and I really liked them.  This was her best solo show yet and I'm really looking forward to her album that she is working on.

To close out the show, Ellie and Aurora came down off the stage to sing Haunt Me.  Haunting indeed.

City Winery

I try very hard to limit my March calendar to just basketball, but when we heard Mark Erelli was going to play a show at City Winery, and Lori McKenna was going to open we just had to go.

City Winery is basically a Club Passim on steroids.  I love the lighting and decor, modern without distracting from the performance area.  Even though the space is big it's still very intimate and you feel very connected to the performer.  They specialize in wines and the cava did not disappoint.  The only downside was them running out of both desserts we wanted to try.

Lori McKenna was amazing as usual and did a great job setting up Mark's performance.  This was the album release party for Mark's new CD of covers.  He did an amazing job.  It was truly magical and our friends who went with us (who had never seen him before) agreed.

JO and I are already looking for opportunities to go back.

March Madness 2018

March Madness is my favorite time of year!  I love the Madness!  This year's tournament was crazy, with tons of upsets and great stories.  Sister Jean was my favorite!  I even got to watch the Thursday games at Parlor Sports with my dad this year, which was really special.

Craiscfest 5K

First 5k of the season done!  I have some work to do to get back into 5k form, but this was a solid start.
