Sumiao Hunan Kitchen

After spending an awesome week in California we had a tough time with the "rentry process" back into the real world.  The weather wasn't great, work was crazy, and we both had the post vacation blues big time.

By the time Friday rolled around, JO and I were both barely standing and it was cold and rainy out.  We decided that our mood called for checking out a new restaurant.  With it's funky decor (we were still dreaming of Palm Springs) Sumiao Hunan Kitchen seemed like a sure bet.  We'd heard great things about this place and it's always crowded so we were sure we would like it.

We got a great table by the window with fun views of a busy intersection in Kendall.  The restaurant was quite crowded and I was glad we had a reservation.  The menu has a lot of options so we picked out gyoza, avocado meatballs, and Hunan street noodles.

To say I was underwhelmed is an understatement.  There was nothing wrong with the food but it was boring and plain.  Maybe if we had gotten the Hunan noodles with more spice it would have been better but everything was just so boring.  (This could have been amplified by mood, but for real, it wasn't that good.)

We both agreed we needed to salvage the night so we headed over to our favorite spot in Kendall, The Kendall Hotel.  We got engaged here and stayed here for our wedding so it was the perfect way to make the best of a grumpy night!
