Super Bowl Champs and Snow Emergency!

The recovery from the blizzard was surprisingly manageable.  Our neighborhood returned to normal pretty quickly.  I was able to get my car out and park it easily the two times I drove it. (Yes, you read that...the two times I drove it.) Of course, this did not last long because apparently Cambridge is the new Canada.

No sooner had the blizzard ended then the weathermen were talking about another big storm quickly approaching.  We only had four days in between the two storms, but they were a glorious four days.  The Patriots were playing in the Super Bowl, and Deflategate had finally calmed down, so we could enjoy the game.

Our friends had invited us over to watch the game with them.  They live in the next town over, and our plan was to Uber there and back so we wouldn't have to move one of our cars, but that fell through at the last minute.  We made the choice to drive to their house, and I'm glad we did, because we had a great time watching the game with them.  This did mean that we had to park over a half a mile away, in a very questionable frozen tundra of a spot so I'm really glad the Patriots won.  We even brought over some treats from Trina's.  They had a great offer where you could place orders for party portions of some of their best dishes.  We ordered mini-meatball subs, chili, and pigs in a blanket.  It was so reasonably priced and the portions were huge.  It was nice to get to take a bit of our neighborhood and share it with our friends.

The game had a great finish, made greater by the fact that I had gotten the call earlier in the evening that we had a snow day on Monday.  I don't think the city could've handled this next storm without the Patriots winning!

It ended up snowing for the entire day on Monday.  I think we got around 15 inches more.  The storm was supposed to end late afternoon but it didn't.  Around 3:00 we headed out to dig out my car, but it was fruitless.  There was so much snow, and the ground was so frozen under my car, that it just wasn't going anywhere.  In fact, it's been in that spot for a week now and with more snow on the way I don't see it going anywhere soon.

We returned home and couldn't get over how much snow was coming down.  It quickly became apparent that school would most likely be cancelled the next day.  Once I got the official call, we headed out to The Druid for some SnoWin.

The neighborhood did not, and has not, bounced back from that storm.  With all the blizzard snow as a base, the 15 inches crushed us.  We lost all the parking on two of the snow emergency streets in our neighborhood, accounting for about 20 spaces at least, and parking became nearly impossible on the side streets.  Snowbanks loom high, and cut outs to the streets make you feel a bit claustrophobic.

The snow caused all kinds of traffic problems in Boston, that backed up into our neighborhood.  JO has been forced to drive me to work because the train has been massively destroyed by the snow and sidewalks are one person wide now.

So when the weatherman mentioned a new storm by saying, "I don't want to say it's a 100 hour storm because it's only going to snow for 84 hours" the snow panic escalated to doomsday levels.  School has been an absolute mess.  The kids have no routine, no structure, and I can barely piece together a coherent progression of lessons.  And it's snowing for 84 hours!

Luckily, there was a delayed start to the snow last night and we were able to meet friends out in Boston.  JO and I love our neighborhood, and we love SnoWin in Inman, but we were going a bit stir crazy confined to our four corners of the Square.  We had dinner at the downtown Papagyo and drinks at Silvertone.  Papagyo was a good find.  Great prices, great drinks, and good food.  I really like the space.  I didn't remember until we had gotten into Silvertone that Josh Childs', legendary bartender, was involved in Silvertone and Trina's.  The connection is undeniable.  Silvertone's is very much a retro diner, like Trina's.  It was a bit crowded but a great place to hang out.  They placed awesome music all night.  It was so fun to get to see our friends and be out and about.  The snow can really cut you off from your friends.

Alas, as I'm writing this, I'm watching the snow fall pretty steadily.  The totals have been upped from a foot to two feet.  School has already been cancelled and I don't think I'm ever going to drive my car again.  We've dealt with 4 1/2 feet of snow in the last 16 days.  I'm afraid of what the next 16 days have in store for us!  One weather model has us getting a lot of snow at the end of the week.  I!  Can't!  Even!

60 inches of snow in 16 days! Help!!!
The snow days have allowed us to create our Adventure Wall!
