Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was another day spent waiting for a snowstorm, a blizzard in fact.  Yes, we were bracing for a second blizzard in a month.  We had lots of fun Valentine's Day plans and we weren't going to let the snow stop us.

First up, watching Casablanca at The Brattle Theater in Harvard Square.  By the time we left the apartment it had started snowing so we decided to take the T from Central to Harvard.  We checked the status of the trains before leaving and it looked like the T was actually running on time.  When we got to Central the sign said the next rain would be arriving in eight minutes.  That was cutting it a bit close but we decided to wait it out since Uber was really expensive and the roads were already a mess.

Eight minutes came and went and still no train.  At this point we realized that the outbound train had been stopped in the station for several minutes and we knew something must be wrong.  I checked the T website again to find out that service was delayed due to a medical emergency at Park Street.  We knew we didn't have any time, the movie was starting in 15 minutes, so we raced above ground.  We tried to get on the bus, two in fact, but weren't able to.  Cabs were scarce and Uber was out of the question.  I was ready to give up.  There was no way we would make the start of the movie, and even if we did, we probably wouldn't be able to get two seats together.  I told JO we should just head home but he refused.  He rallied and got us walking, really fast, towards Harvard.  The sidewalks were crowded and slippery but we kept moving.

I have no idea how we made it.  We found two seats near the back and even had a minute to get concessions.  I'm so glad we made it.  I love this tradition and the movie is just so good!

Since the movie was two hours long we figured the T would be back up and running.  We had dinner reservations in Boston that we had decided to keep despite the snow.  When we got into Harvard Station we realized that the trains were still messed up.  We realized we were going to have to cancel our reservations and find another solution.  A few days before we had tried to find dinner reservations in Harvard Square but everything was booked so we weren't quite sure what we were going to do.

We decided to try Park since we both really like it.  Luck was on our side, there were two seats left at a community table in the bar. I don't think the hostess had any idea why we were so happy.  We both loved our meals.  I ordered the bar steak and it was so delicious.  I have to say, the arugula salad served on the side was amazing.  I kind of want to go back right now just to get the salad again.  This is a great restaurant and a perfect place to have Valentine's Day on a snowy night in Harvard Square.

After dinner we walked home and got ready for the 80s Parlor Prom at Parlor Sports.

Parlor Sports is one of our favorite places in our neighborhood so we were certainly going to attend this fun event.  We trudged over through the rapidly falling snow to enjoy a fun night!  I have to say, Parlor Sports outdid themselves.  They nailed the theme and decor!  DJ Garvey had a great selection of 80s music playing, there was a mock photo booth for "official" prom pictures," prom king and queen crowns adorned the bar, and there was a craft table to make your own homemade Valentines.
