Aeronaut Allston is a pop up of sorts. On Wednesdays and Fridays Aeronaut has a beer garden with live music at the community space, Zone 3, in Allston. Seeing as it is nearly impossible to get into Aeronaut these days, having a large outdoor space like this makes a lot of sense. And I really think the whole event, including the music, is actually really important to the people at Aeronaut. They take a lot of pride in being able to bring good beer and good music to an outdoor space like this one. I kind of think about it as a "beer community outreach" program and it really works. It's beens so successful that they are doing something similar in Arlington on Saturdays.
The minute we walked into Zone 3 my city meter started ticking upwards. The space is really large, with lots of places to hang out. This year they put in concrete benches near the music stage and I was lucky to find two spots while JO was in the beer line. In case you've never heard of Aeronaut or had it before, it's really, really good. We enjoyed the first act and the beautiful sunset!
Also, I'm a sucker for Edison lights. They make every outdoor space better!
Although Aeronaut is fabulous, the real star of the night was Lula Wiles. I've raved about them before (here and here) and I'm going to rave about them again. Lula Wiles is all guitars, fiddles, upright bass, and folk mixed together perfectly. (And if you don't think you like folk, guess what, you do!) Their songs are really poignant and thoughtful and really easy to sing along with. I love their stage presence and their interactions with one another. They are super funny and know exactly how to connect with an audience. I was really excited to hear that they are doing the band thing more or less full time now because I will go to any and all Lula Wiles shows!
One of the songs from their first album
This is one of their new songs! JO and I keep getting the chorus stuck in our heads 😀
I can't recommend Aeronaut Allston and Lula Wiles enough! Good beer and great music~ It was a perfect way to celebrate being heatwave free!
