More Union Square Fun!

Summer vacations are meant for fun Sunday nights!

We started with dinner on the patio at The Independent.  The Independent never disappoints.  They have a great fenced in patio.  You can't see the outside world and you kind of feel really removed from everything.  The food is always reliable, they have a great beer menu, and on Sundays the dj music from Brass Union floats over, adding to the ambience.  (Side bar- if I was a Brass Union I would hate the music but a block away it sounds lovely.) Since JO was working the next day I figured our evening would end there, but he suggested we head over to Remnant Brewing to extend the evening.

We've been here a few times now and every time I enjoy the experience a little more.  Remnant is housed in the Bow Market, a new marketplace in Somerville, and features an outdoor patio.  We enjoyed the lovely weather.  With heat and humidity expected to return for the next few days, it was nice to be able to take advantage of a patio night.

While sitting on the patio we had a perfect view of the Culture House, which had just opened a few days below.  Culture House started advertising all over Inman Square with these open ended ads that said, "Culture House, a place to _______."  Various phrases filled in the blanks: watch soccer, study, work, hang out, learn, etc.  This article really sums up what the Culture House pop up is all about.  It's part neighborhood living room, shared work space, indoor playground, and community space.

We went next door and explored the space a bit.  There were trampolines, swings, desks, a small stage, ping pong tables, and more.  JO and I have this thing where we think of different spots in the city as an extension of our living room.  Parlor Sports- our sports living room.  Wit's End- board game living room.  Aeronaut- beer living room. Club Passim- music living room.  I think this Culture House really picked up on people wanting more living rooms outside of their own housing and I think this is a trend we will see more and more in the way restaurants, breweries, cafes, and coffee shops utilize their space.
