My last day of school was last Wednesday and I had asked JO to skip Guy's Night Out so we could do something fun to celebrate, and then, feeling overwhelmed with the end of the school year, couldn't decided what I wanted to do. I was so glad when JO texted to say we should get dinner in the Seaport and check out the tall ships that were in town for Sail Boston.
The final bell rang at 3:00, and I said goodbye to an amazing group of kids that I will truly miss, and headed home. (side note~ As much as I was looking forward to summer vacation I did not want to let this group go. They all just functioned so well together and I could count on one hand the amount of times they stressed me out this year. Most of the time, I'm so completely exhausted and spent by the last day of school that it takes me several weeks of summer to recover. Not this year! These kids were amazing to work with!)
JO had made reservations at Gather. They have a great patio and I figured we wouldn't have a problem getting a table because I've never seen the place truly packed. My mistake. Apparently this tall ships thing was a lot bigger of a deal than I thought they were because the Seaport was wrecked! There were tons of people and the streets were flooded with pedestrians. I think most of the restaurants were truly overwhelmed. The Seaport is never super crowded, even in the summer. It took awhile for a waitress to come over to take our order, and we missed out on a patio table, but over all I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Gather. Plus, with their floor to (really high) ceiling windows it was practically like we were outside.
After dinner, we decided to wait in line to get a closer look at some of the ships. I'm so glad we did because they were really neat! I'll let the pictures do the talking!
Since it was a gorgeous night out, we decided to stop at Tamo to see if we could get a patio seat. It was our lucky night, because there was one table for two left with nice views of the harbor, and one of the tall ships all lit up.
This was the perfect way to start summer! I can't thank JO enough for thinking of this special night out!
