Day 143- One Glorious City Day

Saturday was one of those summer days that you just can't waste.  On top of that, as we watch the numbers in MA tick up, we know our window for enjoying the places that are open is probably shrinking.  (In my opinion, it is imperative that we end indoor dining and close things like gyms and fitness studios.  That really, really sucks but it could save us more damage in the long term.)

After breakfast I declared that we needed to find a place for oysters.  JO suggested we go to Alcove in Boston.  It's a spot we had seen on one of our bike rides.  It's tucked away on Lovejoy Wharf so it's not near the street and the walk into the city cuts through pretty empty streets so it's a safe walk.  (We try to avoid Boston because of the crowds and limited mask wearing that we've seen.)

We were thrilled to find a beautiful, socially distanced patio with strict safety protocols, gorgeous city views, and yummy oysters! (We also peeked inside and the space looks super fun with a giant bar accented in copper and black.)

Those orange umbrellas are the patio. It's a lovely spot.

After lunch we headed over to Charlestown and was pleasantly pleased to find no crowds and a "Beer Garden" which was incredibly spaced out with city views.  It was so nice to just city outside and relax.  It was the most "outdoor" time I had had in a long time.

On our way home we stopped by Best Buy to get some new supplies for my classroom.  I felt like I was off to college again 😉 In all seriousness, I am going to try to avoid all shared spaces so it's best if I have my own fridge and microwave in my classroom.

For dinner we headed out to Harvard Square for a picnic.  We picked up a pizza from Russell House Tavern and went to JFK Park to enjoy the river and sunset views.  (Note- the main part of Harvard Square is a Covid Catastrophe waiting to happen.  We were both overwhelmed by the crowds. It's a serious situation.  The park was lovely though.)

In my mind, I had anticipated ending the evening with a drink somewhere but after seeing those crowds I didn't think that was going to happen.  A drink isn't worth putting yourself at risk so we decided to take some side streets home.  Thankfully those side streets took us past Daedalus.  I remembered that they had posted about a back patio and I wanted to check it out.  When we turned the corner and saw the patio they created our breath was taken away.  My goodness.  It's like out of a movie.  The strings of white lights, the planters with lights inside, the carpets, and pink and yellow tables combine to create a thing of beauty.  It really reminded me that creativity is looking at solving problems in a new way.  The pandemic is absolutely awful but this beautiful space wouldn't exist otherwise.  JO and I really enjoyed the evening under the moonlight and white lights.
