Before I get to the great part about Friday, I feel like I need to say something. After listening to comments by my governor (insinuating that teachers can't create a classroom community online), and reading about this parent's comments at a school board meeting, I feel disgusted.
I can't believe a parent was trying to argue that two children dying wasn't a reason to mandate safety protocols. I'm going to say this loud and clear for those in the back. We are in the middle of a pandemic! Most of us have never experienced anything like this. A pandemic requires making changes and adapting. No, we cannot just go about our usual business like nothing is happening because something quite serious is happening. Covid kills. Covid can make you quite sick. Covid may have a long lasting impact on your health. You don't really know that it won't be you or your family member. Imagine what would happen to the education of a child if his or her teacher died during the school year?
We know how to fight Covid. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Keep a safe distance. Avoid crowded indoor settings. Teachers did not sign up to prop up the economy. Teachers did not sign up to be a pawn in a president's re-election campaign. Teachers are not the problem here. Our country has failed to control the virus. In my state, we did a lot right but now our numbers are creeping up because our governor waited until yesterday to take action. If you put rules in place you need to enforce them. If bad choices are available, people will make the bad choices. We all need to put our grown up pants on, remember this is not a typical summer, and follow the damn rules! You don't have to like the rules but a rule is a rule. Follow it! (And it would be super helpful if our elected officials would provide financial support to industries that aren't able to open yet. We need those places to stay closed. We should be helping them!!!!!! Why is this so hard to understand?)
And now, for the good stuff!
Friday's weather was awesome. It was like a perfect spring day and we didn't want to miss out. Since case numbers are increasing, and we had already gone to a restaurant yesterday, we decided to do a picnic in North Point Park. We found a perfect spot on the small hill in the middle of the park overlooking the Zakim Bridge. It was so relaxing and so nice to forget about all of the school drama for a while.
On the way home, we walked down the riverfront and took in the spectacular city views!
