I had to go into school for seven hours each on Monday and Thursday to pack up my classroom. That was a lot of time to be away from home, and I'm not sure I was mentally prepared to be away from my bubble for that long. I had two different social commitments, a Google Hangout with a friend and trivia with Parlor Sports, that I had to work around.
Our stay at home orders are set to expire on Monday and I'm not sure what to expect from our governor. He says he is going to let the science guide him and put a cautious plan in place, so I'm hopeful. That being said, yesterday this was the experience I had.
I rarely buy coffee at Dunks anymore. I did today because I left my house at 6:15am to pack up my classroom. At the first Dunks I went to, three employees had their masks below their noses and the two other customers in the shop didn’t have masks on at all so I left. On the way to the next one I saw construction workers standing side by side with no masks. And now I’m seeing the pictures out of WI of crowded bars last night. Our society is not ready to re-open because so many people are driven by “me” not “we” or choosing to ignore the facts.
On a different note:
One thing I love about living in the city is having lots of neighbors. I am particularly found of whoever lives in the building next door who plays classical piano each night. The notes have filled the unusual quietness of the last 63 days. When I look back on this time I will most definitely remember the piano music and I will smile.
