Day 30~ Hello Barcelona Wine Bar

Day 30~ wow!  It seems like quite an accomplishment.  I have never spent this much time in my apartment.  During a heatwave in the summer I get so grumpy and annoyed when I can't get out of the house for a few days because of the soaring temps but somehow, besides a few quarantine meltdowns, I've survived 30 straight days and kind of actually enjoyed it.  (Again, I don't enjoy the virus or any of the horrible things happening because of the virus.)

I made sure to visit my island, and happily bought the new face mask available in the Nook Store. (Nicely done Nintendo, nicely done!)

I made a "from scratch" tomato sauce to go over frozen ravioli.  I forgot how easy this sauce is, and how delicious it is.  (Saute up chopped garlic and shallots, add a can of diced tomatoes with basil and oregano, and finish with some white wine!  Simple and delicious and I'm glad to have reminded myself of this easy recipe that I need to make more often when it's "normal" again.

It was kind of a windy day and Denali wanted none of it so he curled himself up in the blanket.  (OK~ I may have helped a little.)

We went for another 5K, bringing our total miles run since this all started to 39.

We spotted these polar bears in the window at Wit's End.

The real highlight of Day 30 was dinner!  We weren't able to go out for the birthday dinner portion of my birthday back in March.  I did have a lovely gathering of friends which was awesome, but no birthday is complete without the birthday dinner part, in my opinion.  Our early March schedules were crazy busy so, prior to the quarantine, we made reservations for April 11th at Barcelona Wine Bar in the South End.  We had tried to go there last year for my birthday but I was too sick.  I was so excited to try it again this year.  I've only ever heard great things about it and I love the South End.  Plus, it would be the week before April Vacation and would definitely be a perfect way to gear up for that last week.

Instead, the quarantine continues and my birthday dinner seemed doomed for the second year in a row.  That's when I had the great idea to see if they were doing take out.  Luckily for us, Barcelona Wine Bar was doing takeout!  They have a great online ordering platform with pictures of each dish, which makes you want to buy them all!  Bonus~ they are selling their beer and wine at 50% off.  We bought a bottle of cava for $16.  I kind of wish we had ordered a few more bottles from their amazing wine list.

We placed our order and drove over to pick it up.  I was pretty excited to be out for a drive.  It was so weird to see the city so empty at 7:00 on a Saturday night.

Maybe it's the lack of dining out, but this dinner was one of the best I've ever had.  I actually think the food was just that good and it has nothing to do that I've only had take out one other time in the past thirty days.  The potato egg tortilla dish was phenomenal, the ham and cheese croquettes were obnoxiously good, and the rice dish with chorizo and Spanish sausage was just mind blowing.  JO could not get over the rice actually.  Like, he had a real moment with the rice dish!  It was an amazing birthday dinner!  (Maybe sometime I'll get to enjoy this delicious food in the beautiful restaurant but for now this was perfect!)

After dinner we tuned in to my favorite quarantine tradition, A Touch More, Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe's weekly Instagram Live show.  They even had some special guests this week! I hope they find a way to continue this when the quarantine is over.
